Lessons

The lesson program at WHF focuses on developing confident, effective, and thoughtful horsemen/woman. While we aren’t a discipline specific program, most of our students ride western with a ranch, western dressage, and/or trail focus. Regardless of saddle style, students will learn correct foundational principles, and how to communicate clearly with their horse.

We have a small group of lesson horses to accommodate students who do not own their own horse. Each of our horses have their own unique skill sets, strengths, and personalities to fit a variety of rider abilities and interest.

We do not offer jumping lessons on our lesson horses, however we are happy to assist you in jumping with your own horse.

Horsemanship is a huge part of becoming a good rider and will be incorporated into every lesson. Not every lesson will include riding. Unmounted lessons are just as important to overall growth of the student. Unmounted lessons include a wide range of topics and hands-on learning that will increase students’ general equine knowledge, confidence, and the building of a well-rounded equestrian. Topics include but are not limited to; care and management, health and first aid, herd dynamics and equine body language, showing and patterns, and handling and ground work.
